THE WHOLE EARTH IS A SHRINE IS AN ALTAR
an installation of works by Jacqueline Gomez January 4, 2019 - March 30, 2019 at the Bakehouse Art Complex in Miami ,Florida. THE WHOLE EARTH IS A SHRINE IS AN ALTAR is comprised of silver gelatin photographs and other research materials that document the indigenous culture of Tequesta archeological sites throughout Miami-Dade County. Most of the evidence of this culture has disappeared from the landscape as result of urban development during the 20th and 21st centuries. Gomez’s series is intended to give image to some of what remains and promote the preservation and study of the history of this Native-American tribe. Gomez’s installation was the first proposal to be chosen as part of the Bakehouse’s [OPEN] Spaces program, which provides opportunities for its resident and associate artists to mount short-term installations and experiment beyond the confines of their studios. Join us for the opening ceremony to bless the space with Ishmael Bermudez on January 4, 2019 at 11am. THE WHOLE EARTH IS A SHRINE IS AN ALTAR is open to the public Tuesday – Friday from 11am – 4pm in Studio 48.
